FREE – pElement for Windows

Interactive Periodic Table
Crystal Mountain Software offers three different software programs: pElements Free, pElement Lite, and pElement.  pElement is free, and the other two software programs can be purchased.

pElement Free
This free software is geared toward elementary school students, and the general public. Individuals can familiarize themselves with the Periodic Table, or practice for tests. I downloaded it on my Mac using Parallels and Windows Vista.  Viewers can click on individual elements, and a thumbnail screen pops up identifying the element, atomic number and its atomic weight.  The interface color can be changed.

pElement Lite
pElement Lite provides the same screen interface, with additional features.  Click on an element in the table to identify basic properties, like boiling or melting points, atomic number and weight, density, crystal structure, etc.   In addition, viewers can identify which elements have metallic, physical or radioactive states, and if they contain isotopes.  The information is simplified, yet detailed enough for students to review, or refresh their knowledge.

pElement
I didn’t download pElement, but the first two programs worked fine, and pElement Lite did provide the specific information detailed on the website.  pElement offers even more  information, best suited for high school and college chemistry courses (i.e. electron and crystal structure, isotope information, electronegativity, etc.).

The software programs were easy to manipulate and understand. pElement Lite and pElement offer quick references to specific details for each element.  The price is right, especially if you need the information quickly (and not waste time digging for data in a chemistry book, or online).   Academic site licenses are available, and Crystal Mountain Software offers a free 5-day trial download.
